CLAY BEDFORD

attorney at law

My name is Clay Bedford. I am an attorney licensed to practice law in the State of California. My practice is limited to criminal defense and juvenile cases.

Please excuse the informality of my current page. I am still in the process of building my official page.

I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1974. I obtained my law degree (J.D.) in 1977 from the College of Law at Syracuse University in 1977. I also was awarded a masters degree in accounting at the same time.

I opened a private practice in San Jose, California, in 1977. My practice consisted of primarily criminal defense cases and juvenile cases. My practice included trial work and work in the California Court of Appeals and California Supreme Court. I worked in San Jose for 15 years.

I then moved to Winchester, Kentucky, where I opened a law firm primarily dedicated to criminal defense and juvenile defense cases. I did cases at the trial level and in the Kentucky Court of Appeals and the Kentucky Supreme Court.

In 1998, I accepted a job at the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy in the Pikeville office. My work there consisted of criminal and juvenile cases at the trial level.

In 2003, I left the Department of Public Advocacy and accepted a job with the Law Office of the Public Defender for Tuolumne County in Sonora, California. I worked on criminal defense and juvenile cases. I retired from the Public Defender's Office on October 31, 2016 to open a private practic. My practice is limited to criminal defense and juvenile cases.

The criminal cases I am accepting include everything from trespass to driving under the influence to murder. I have tried cases ranging from trespass to murder, including a death penalty case. I have lost track of the number of trials I have done, but the number is in the hundreds.

The juvenile cases I accept include delinquency cases (representing minors charged with crimes) and dependency cases (usually representing parents who are charged with neglecting their children (often due to drug abuse) where the county has taken the children away from the parents and may be trying to terminate the parent's parental rights so the children can be placed for adoption.

I am also accepting cases on appeal. I have been the primary attorney on over 100 appeals in California and Kentucky.

The phone number below is a direct dial number that goes directly to me. I do not have a secretary screening my calls, so you should have no problem reaching me.

I accept cases in all courts in California.

I look forward to providing my services to you.
